This Sunday, April 24th,on The Travel Guys…..

Nick Valenzuela shares the second half of his #Hash Tag Travel Report.  Nick looked all over the state for great Instagramable Spots.  He found a number of them and all of the photos can be found here.

On The Travel Guys, we are always looking for something a little different to share.  We think we found a blogger/author who specializes in them.   Chris Backe (rhymes with “hockey”) writes for One Weird Globe and he is on hand from Croatia to share with us some of the quirky things he has found.  A museum about relationships that have failed?  A Korean King who kept the most unusual family souvenirs and even a tour of Underground Seattle with an adult twist.

The story about United having a passenger drug from a plane two weeks ago is still in the news, and some things are changing because of that situation.  Tom and Mark take a segment and talk about what to do if they ever tell you, “Yes you have a ticket.  No, you cannot board the airplane.”  Our goal, making you a smarter traveler.

In the Travel News, American Airlines has announced that their new 737s will have even less leg room than their existing planes, cutting 1-2 inches off every seat.  Mark is a bit outraged, and can’t believe the timing of the announcement, coming on the heels of the United and American “on board” incidents of recent weeks and Congress’ promise to crack down on the airlines if they don’t get their acts together.
Mark digs into the mailbag to answer your travel questions (ask your questions using the form on this page) and the guys have an extended conversation with veteran Travel Writer Ed Perkins about the whole airline situation.  Finally, Mark has five things you never say when trying to win an argument with a travel supplier.  Just one way listening to The Travel Guys can make you a smarter traveler.

This Sunday, on the June 25th edition of The Travel Guys:

In the Travel News, Mark is reporting a significant change in the cancellation policies for many Marriott branded hotels.  It was done quietly, without a public announcement.  Many properties are now collecting a cancellation fee if you don’t cancel at least 48 hours prior to arrival. The old rule was generally 24 hours, up from 6pm day of arrival just in recent years.  Beware, the hotels are coming after your wallet.

Also in the news, Uber is about to allow you to tip your ride-sharing driver (Lyft riders have always been able to add a tip).  There are other policy changes affecting Uber riders and Mark has a report.

Guests include a representative from the Rosie The Riveter Trust in Richmond.  They are planning to try and break a world’s record in August.  Learn more about it here.  We also have US Travel to report on Americans and their vacation time.  In 2016, we took a little more of what was coming to us.  Finally, we wrap up with a man who wrote a book on road rage and give you some ideas on how to avoid those who spread it (Who are they?)

On the Sunday, July 2nd edition of The Travel Guys:

Gwen Duncan is on hand to make you a smarter traveler with a discussion on an important subject.  Does Cancellation Insurance/Protection cover you in the event of a terrorism attack or event?  What are the parameters? What’s covered and what’s not? Questions we all hope we never need the answers to, but it’s important to know what those answers might be.

Clayton Whitehead stops by to discuss the state of international travel.  How are political situations in the U.S. impacting the way visitors from the United States are being received?  Clayton has been to Ireland this year and is planning a trip with a group of travelers to Italy this fall.  He’s the perfect guy to update us on an important topic at the height of the travel season.

Finally, Mark has been all over the country in recent weeks, from Cape Cod to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, including Mackinac Island.  He takes time to recap his travels, of course liberally sprinkling his commentary with travel tips on where to stay, what to see, and just as important, where NOT to stay and what NOT to see.

In the Travel News, Mark explains United Airlines announcement regarding their Mileage Plus frequent flyer program.

* In the travel news, Hyatt Hotel joins the list of chains changing their standard cancellation policies.  It was only a year ago cancellations were pushed from 4-6pm on the day of arrival to the day before.  Now, with Marriott/Starwood leading the way, the last time you can cancel a room and get a full refund is now 48-72 hours prior to your arrival.  For now, Hyatt appears to be joining the 48 hour group.  Holiday Inn (IHG Hotels) has said they will remain at 24 hours, and at some properties in their system, you can still cancel the day of arrival without charge.  Plus, you can now stay in Donald Trump’s childhood home in Queens.

* In our Smarter Traveler segment, Mark shares a long list of ways to keep your suitcase from getting lost in transit.  Some are pretty obvious (check in early, avoid tight connections), but some you may not have thought of (like putting a picture of your bag on your phone).  We bet you’ll find more than one tip here to keep you and your bag together.

* Road Reporter Jiim Pelley has returned from South America, and visits to both Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands.  Those two destinations appear on many Bucket Lists.  Jim shares his adventures and tells us who can realistically go there and who cannot.

* Updates from The Wreath Project and one of the eclipse sites in Oregon round out today’s line up.
